Reflection, Meditation & Discussion
chapel

There is opportunity for reflection and spirituality in all the activities at Alton Castle. We aim to show the young people that God isn't just found in Mass and services, but that we can meet God whatever we are doing.

Morning Prayer, Night Prayer, Mass and Thank You Service are all a valuable part of the programme and allow the young people a chance to reflect on their days at the castle.

The young people are involved in the services with the use of symbolism, drama, music, reading and the opportunity for open prayer.

Meditations are used in many of the activities as a way of reflecting, listening and feeling.

A break in an activity, whether that is on a walk or a bike ride, is an ideal opportunity for the young people to meditate.

It allows them to move away from everyday distractions and to appreciate the nature, sounds and movements around them.

Discussion is incorporated in many of the activities as well as being an invaluable way of preparing the group for the session.

Discussing their hopes for the retreat at the start of the programme, talking about refugees before survival, how they have found the activities or even whom they would like to be stuck in a lift with.

These are just some of the ways in which the young people have a chance to talk about themselves or about things that are important to them.
